More than 250 million people live and work outside their countries of birth, and some send a part of their earning back home to help their families and friends. In 2014, migrants sent more than $583 billion to their home countries, according to a new study by the World Bank. This is a substantial chunk of change, sometimes accounting for a large slice of that country's GDP. Nearly half of Djibouti's GDP came from remmitances; for Iran, that figure is just under a third. But the lion's share in terms of dollarswent to three Asian nations: India, China, and the Phillippines.
