Clean water and sanitation is key to human survival. Without these readily available, the chance for diseases increases. Most importantly, children are more susceptible to water-borne diseases since their immune system is developing. The number one water-borne disease is diarrhoeal diseases. In the graph below, we explore how access to basic drinking water and sanitation effects the proportion of children under 5 years dying because of diarrhoeal diseases in rural areas of South American countries.
